The weather is beautiful, the skies are clear. It made for a beautiful day to take the scenic roads less traveled by. With really no destination in mind we headed out a little unprepared. Armed with only a camera and a fountain soda, we headed out on the open road. As we started looking at the map, we discovered we didn't have to go far to hit the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. It was quite a deal for only $10 a car load.
That's one Giant Log??? This is one of the larger Petrified Logs in the Forest.
Its hard to believe this used to all be a Swampy forest full of Dinosaurs,
Now it's inhabited by this little guy!
Right over the hill is I-40. They drive right by the Painted Desert without even knowing its there. Sometimes it's good to slow down and enjoy the scenery.

lookit you Miss Skinny! you look fantastic! (I was like 13 before I learned that petrified trees do NOT stand up like they do in the cartoons...) Glad you got to make this trip. =)
